Prime Minister of Italy Silvio Berlusconi Decides To Resign

Prime Minister of Italy Silvio Berlusconi Decides To Resign By Jennifer Quinn

In a long-delayed move that doomed his third government, Silvio Berlusconi vowed to resign as Italy's longest-serving prime minister after losing majority in lower house of parliament and key economic reforms have been approved. "I will resign as soon as the law is passed... I see elections being held at the beginning of February and I will not be a candidate in them," he said. In the latest speech, Silvio Berlusconi claimed that he would not run again in early polls. In fact, both allies and opponents have been urging Silvio Berlusconi to hand over as Italy's debt crisis increases. Meanwhile, Italy's borrowing costs hit a record high of 7% on Wednesday. Berlusconi shared that he expected President Giorgio Napolitano to dissolve parliament and call early elections after his resignation. He also proposed former Minister of Justice Angelino Alfano as a candidate to replace him in future elections.

Italy's Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi married his first wife Carla Elvira Dall'Oglio in 1965 and the couple had two children: Maria Elvira and Pier Silvio. He was divorced from Dall'Oglio in 1985 after having a relationship with the actress Veronica Lario with whom he subsequently had three children: Barbara, Eleonora and Luigi. Prime Minister of Italy married Veronica Lario five years after his first divorce. By this time, Berlusconi was a well-known entrepreneur, and his wedding was a notable social event. One of his best men was former Prime Minister and leader of the Italian Socialist Party Bettino Craxi. In May 2009, his second wife Veronica Lario announced that she was to file for divorce after he was photographed at the 18th birthday party of an aspiring model, Noemi Letizia.

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s Top Mistresses

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s Top Mistresses By Henes Pitt

After three terms in office as the Italy's longest-serving post-war Prime Minister as well as one of the country’s richest men, Silvio Berlusconi confirmed on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 that he would resign. Silvio Berlusconi has conquered Italian politics for 17 years. He has been indicted over 20 times and currently stands trial for four different convictions.

Silvio Berlusconi has become notorious with his penchant for inviting young women to so-called bunga bunga sex parties. The Prime Minister used to be ordered to stand trial on charges of having sex with a 17-year-old girl named El Mahroug. Mr Berlusconi has also been charged with abuse of power in another case related to the same young women. The 75-year-old man has been dogged by a lot of sex scandals.

In 2009, the second wife of Silvio Berlusconi divorced him after discovering his ashamed relationship with 18-year-old model Noemi Letizia. The powerful man faced more scandals as pictures of topless women and a naked man at his villa on Sardinia were released. Silvio Berlusconi was also accused of paying several escorts to attend parties at his resident in Rome.

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi used to talk about his active "social life" that “Last night I had a queue outside the door of the bedroom ... There were 11 ... I only did eight because I could not do it anymore.”

Carla Bruni and Nicolas Sarkozy Take First Stroll with Newborn Guilia

Carla Bruni and Nicolas Sarkozy Take First Stroll with Newborn Guilia By Zhang Tung
Carla Bruni, wife of French President Nicolas Sarkozy had said that her newborn baby daughter Guilia would not become a publicity tool in the campaign of her husband to be re-elected as French president. The admirable couple was pictured taking their adorable Guilia for her first stroll on the grounds of the presidential residence – the Palace of Versailles in Versailles, France on October 31.

Wrapped up against the autumn chill, the 12-day-old Giulia of the French President and First Lady was indeed hidden from public view. However, the images of Carla Bruni and President Nicolas Sarkozy walking arm in arm with their daughter make some French commentators cynical about their public appearance. Some even suspected that Nicolas Sarkozy’s aides had tipped off photographers.

Several political experts said that the images of Nicolas Sarkozy stepping out with his wife and his newborn baby daughter won’t do his electoral chances any harm at all. One expert said that the president wanted to be seen as a normal father who also loves enjoying some autumn’s fresh air and sunshine with his former supermodel wife and baby; but “as publicity shots of France’s First Family, they will take some beating,” he said.

President Nicolas Sarkozy, 56, looked casual in a white shirt and a blue scarf while the new mother Carla Bruni, 43, whose daughter Giulia was born on October 20, has shifted not back into her glamorous ways but into full-on mom mode, wearing a grey cardigan, stretch pants, and flat soles, which help to disguise the 4in height difference between the couple.

Mr Sarkozy, who married Carla Bruni following a whirlwind romance of just 80 days in 2008, has three sons from his two previous marriages. Mr. Sarkozy has his first two sons Pierre, 26, and Jean, 25, from his first marriage to Marie-Dominique Culioli, and the third son Louis, 14, from his second to Cecilia Ciganer-Albéniz. Meanwhile, Carla Bruni also has a 10-year-old son Aurelien with Raphael Enthoven, a Paris philosopher.

Nicolas Sarkozy has received many things as gifts after the birth of his baby Giulia from presidents from all over the world, including British Prime Minister David Cameron, Morocco’s King Mohamed VI, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, former French President Jacques Chirac and former First Lady Bernadette Chirac.

George W Bush Political History

George W Bush Political History By Josh Spaulding

George W. Bush has had one of the most controversial presidencies in recent years. His presidency has no doubt been a tough one with the 9-11 terrorist attacks and war in Iraq plaguing the nation.

Education and Early Political Career

Bush, son of president George H.W. Bush and U.S. senator Prescott Bush, was born into politics. He attended Yale and graduated with a degree in history. After a short stint in the Texas Air National Guard, he attended Harvard to obtain an MBA.

He dabbled in business for a while, owning an oil and gas business, before attempting politics for the first time in 1977. He ran for Congress in western Texas, but was defeated by his opponent.

Texan Governor

It wasn't until 1993 that Bush attempted to run for office again. He went head to head with Democrat Ann Richards, one of the most successful governors in Texas history. Although his opponent was popular, he had a strong team of advisors who created an unbeatable platform for his campaign. He performed well in the debates, and won the election with 52% of the votes.

As governor, Bush spearheaded efforts to increase education funding and offer support for religious organizations. He also reformed the justice system in Texas. In 1998, Bush won re-election with 69% of the vote. He continued his policies based on strong Republican values, and in 1999 announced that he would run for President.

The 2000 Election

Bush relied on his previous campaign managers, Karen Hughes, John Allbaugh and Karl Rove, in his bid for the presidency. After beating out U.S. Senator John McCain for the Republican ticket, Bush and Vice President Al Gore faced off for the White House.

The election took place on November 7, 2000 and was not resolved until December of that year. After a lot of controversy over the state of Florida's electoral votes, Bush was declared the winner with 271 electoral votes. However, he lost the popular election by over 500,000 votes.

The Presidency

Bush's first term was marked by tragedy with the terrorist attacks on September 11th. He successfully pulled the nation together at a time of crisis. His "compassionate conservative" approach appealed to many people and his approval rating soared. His policies focused on eradicating terrorism worldwide and increasing national security, to the detriment of domestic programs.

In March 2002, Bush declared war in Iraq after months of attempted negotiations with Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein. Less than a month later, U.S. Troops successfully overtook the capital of Baghdad. However, military presence in Iraq continues as troops try to keep peace between the citizens and insurgents.

In 2004, Bush was re-elected to the presidency, despite growing concern over the Iraqi occupation. Growing public disapproval and continued increases in the national debt, mostly fueled by military expenses, have marked his second term. Whether you are supportive or critical of George W. Bush, there is no denying his impact on the course of the nation's history.

Give Berlusconi A Break

Give Berlusconi A Break By Gianni Truvianni
It happened yesterday, November 6 in Moscow during a news conference being given by both Russian President Medvedev and Italian Prime minister Silvio Berlusconi that the later of these two men made a comment about Obama (President elect of USA) that translated in to the English language would be as follows: He (Obama) is young, handsome and tanned.
One could interpret these words as offensive if one chose to do so but then again one could interpret just about anything as such if one looked for the angle where it might be. Words however are not all that should be looked upon, not they do not matter but their context. Berlusconi, as is clear on the video which can be seen on the internet was speaking in what I would call a “pleasant manner of jest” and not in one that meant to degrade Obama in anyway or at least that was apparent. Perhaps Berlusconi’s now famous or infamous line as one cares to classify it might have even been taken from the title of the song “To Be Gifted, Young and Black” by Afro-American singer Nina Simone.
I for my part am not trying to justify what Berlusconi said as I feel that there is really nothing that has to be justified though perhaps explained to some who might have gotten the wrong idea of what Berlusconi’s meaning was. Naturally there was for sure the element of race in his comment but in a sense his comment was not really one that the logical mind should see as being derogatory. This being the case even if many of Berlusconi’s political rivals who in Italy number many amongst which can be counted the mayor of Rome, (Walter Veltroni who is also the leader of opposition P.D, “Partido Democratico” Or Democratic Party) who is always looking for opportunities to take shots at Berlusconi, even when just cause is not to be found.
For my part I believe that a lot of the media attention Berlusconi’s comments are receiving are not connected to the comment itself but to Berlusconi’s past, which includes telling an Austrian law maker that he should play the part of a Nazi concentration camp officer in a film. Of course it is clear to see that Berlusconi’s sense of humor at times is not the kind a world leader should express specially in public as embarrassment may rise from it not only to himself but the nation he represents even if malice was not intended.
On the other hand one could say that Berlusconi is rather naïve thinking that such a comment regardless of how innocent he intended it to be would not be exploited by his many political rivals back home or the media who after many comments like the one he made regarding Islam after September 11. Naïve perhaps Berlusconi is but regarding his comment of yesterday; I ask would it be fair to label it as racist in the meaning that he meant to insult the color of Obama’s skin or as a slur?
This is the question I believe should be answered in the negative and though I can not speak for Berlusconi himself I can do so for myself that I saw no such intensions any more than I do when I hear Italian friends of mine telling me that my skin in summer tans faster than theirs does or is already slightly tanned. After all this is a fact of my skin which I should not and do not take offense at. This due to the racial mixture in me which comes from my mother being a mestiza from South America (this word meaning a person who is half white and half South American Indian) while my father is (or was as he passed away earlier this year) Italian, which in fact makes my skin tone slightly darker than the average Italian.
Returning however to the issue of Berlusconi’s comment over Obama’s skin; I would suggest those who are more than willing to heap criticism on Berlusconi to at least wait to hear what Obama, himself has to say about the comment. For at the end of the day since the comment involves him and not any other member of the Negro race, despite some who also may wish to be heard in the media it should be Obama and him alone whose reaction we should consider and not of those who seek to use Berlusconi’s comment for political gain.
In conclusion however I would suggest to Silvio Berlusconi (also owner of my favorite football team AC Milan) as an Italian American, that he in the future refrain from such comments which though not offensive in either content or intension, can and most likely will be used against him by those who are willing to do so. This being what Veltroni’s statement to “Sky TV 24” makes all to clear and it is also my personal believe that such comments though not evil are perhaps silly to a degree that they really have no place in international politics.
